If you have to ring 101 to report ASB our suggestion is to make yourself a nice cup of tea first and find a comfy seat as your likely to be in for a long wait. It's not unusual to wait up to 20 minutes for the call to be answered and apparently even on Monday's, which some of you may think is a less busy day of the week, you get the recorded message that Hampshire Police are experiencing high levels of calls!
Oh and yes you will be charged for the calls you make.
So, If this or other any other reason puts you off reporting what are the alternatives:-
You can keep a log of any antisocial behaviour you experience or witness - you can download a form for this here
You can sign our Petition for a Public Space Protection Order - sign here
So far our community has resisted calls to take action directly and has been following Hampshire Police's advice
Records of when and what behaviour is happening have been maintained both via 101 and logs.
Partner agencies have been informed i.e. Gosport Borough Council and asked for support as this public area is their responsibility.
A community meeting has been held to discuss the behaviour, impact and desired solutions to address ASB in our neighbourhood.
As the problems continue and action taken by authorities has been ineffective, the next step is being considered.
Following Hampshire Police's own guidance this would be Anti-social Behaviour Community Trigger. This is designed to empower repeat victims of anti-social behaviour to ask for a review of the actions partner agencies have taken to resolve their concerns.
Some are asking why Hampshire Police have chosen not to use a dispersal order when they have received multiple calls regarding large groups of youths targeting local residents or causing a nuisance? Hampshire Constabulary have used these powers in Portsmouth in April 2017 and Basingstoke in August 2017 to great effect, so why not Gosport?
Others want to know what real action Gosport Council are taking other than cleaning up the litter left after the youths depart?
Certainly a Community Trigger will seek an answer to these and other questions.
With your support Hardway Residents Action Group will continue to seek an effective resolution to Anti-social behaviour in our Community
