The lovely warm weather last week brought out the unwelcome visitors to Hardway. Anyone choosing to enjoy Friday evening in the sunshine would have experienced those intent on engaging in ASB and intimidating our community.
People driving through the area were faced with youths in the road, intimidating, harassing and abusing drivers.
Some of us learnt a whole new range of 4 letter words and obscenities courtesy of the youths on the green
If you were unlucky, you or your property was hit by stone throwing yobs
Saturday morning saw local dog walkers clearing up the debris left behind on the green.
It seems although forecast the good weather coming this early in the summer caught the authorities out - the PSPO is in place (since 13th April) but the 'signage' which allows enforcement will not be put up until start of May. The police have to rely on their existing powers to deal with ASB until that time.
It doesn't make it better, but our community is not alone in experiencing youth ASB and there were incidences in other parts of Gosport and also across the harbour in Old Portsmouth last week. We will endeavour to keep the profile of the problems in Hardway high and seek effective response from the authorities so our community can enjoy our public spaces this summer and residents do not suffer another summer filled with intimidation and abuse.
If you see ASB at Hardway please use the 101 system to report BUT please make sure you get a reference number, its the only way to be sure the call has been logged.
We are keeping our own log of incidents to share with authorities so if you experience a problem with ASB at Hardway send us the details:
